MULTIPLE JOB OPPORTUNITIES – ZAMBIA SUGAR PLC

Zambia Sugar Plc, the leading sugar producer in Zambia, invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following permanent positions in the Manufacturing Department at Nakambala, Mazabuka.

Open Positions – Manufacturing Department (Nakambala)

1. Instrument Technician x 1 – Permanent

Reports to: Maintenance Foreman – Instruments

Job Purpose: Responsible for installing and maintaining pneumatic and mechanical instruments including stripping, replacing and adjusting parts, calibrating, reassembling and checking the function of parts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work to the highest standards of safety and follow safe work rules. Do not permit any unsafe acts
  • Install, maintain, calibrate, and repair pneumatic and mechanical instruments
  • Perform Daily Plant Inspection of all equipment in your section as per PM WO route and checklist
  • Ensure workshop and plant housekeeping is in line with the 5S standard
  • Replace and renew materials and components used in electrical instruments, e.g. conducting and insulating materials, soft and hard solders, resistance, coils and capacitors
  • Strip, overhaul and re-assemble air regulators
  • Use relevant hand tools and equipment for marking, cutting, threading and fixing when installing small bore piping, component parts and fittings
  • Ensure all control loops are tuned and optimized to achieve optimum functionality
  • Conduct and contribute to the RCA process with the mindset that all equipment failures are preventable
  • Provide detailed feedback on repair jobs including actual work done, man hours used, failure codes, materials, and tools used
  • Promote and adhere to Illovo's procedures, policies, and guidelines including SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • Diploma in Instrumentation or Electronics Engineering
  • Training and experience in industrial instrumentation as a minimum
  • Preferably 2+ years post experience in a heavy industry environment
  • Experience in the sugar industry is an added advantage
  • Member of Engineering Institute of Zambia
  • Certificates must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA)

2. Handyman Welder – Instrumentation x 1 – Permanent

Reports to: Maintenance Foreman – Instrumentation

Job Purpose: Assist instrumentation technicians and artisans to select, install, fabricate, weld, fit, set up, test, fault find, repair, and maintain instrumentation and control systems and equipment across all areas of Zambia Sugar Plc.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure your own safety, other employees and machinery. Do pre-task risk assessment/take 5 for every work carried out
  • Service air reticulation equipment and motion sensors
  • Install instruments equipment by fabricating stands, supporting structures and welding
  • Carry out piping works. Bending and fitting of stainless, galvanised and plastic fittings and pipes
  • Repair and service instrumentation valves
  • Ensure all tools, welding machines and grinders are in good condition and well looked after
  • Render assistance to Assistants on technical aspects of instruments and process control
  • Execute planned and scheduled work efficiently and to acceptable quality standards
  • Maintain work area clean and tidy at all times. Blow FJBs, Termination cabinets LJBs, welding and fabrication areas
  • Observe all SHE policies and procedures and comply with the Factories Act
  • Participate in continuous personal competence development and attend all required training

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • Level 1 / Grade 5 Trade Certificate in Metal Fabrication/Welding
  • Experience in repairing air service auto drains, servicing motion sensors, and instrumentation valves
  • Experience in welding and fabrication will be an added advantage
  • Member of Engineering Institute of Zambia
  • Certificates must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA)
