Position reports to:                   Superintendent, Environmental              

                                

Purpose

Coordinate and oversee all statutory requirements across the site to ensure full compliance with Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and regulatory obligations.

Key Responsibilities


  • This position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and regulations about health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
  • Take a leadership role in the ongoing development and implementation of all inspections at Kansanshi. This will include the following:
  • a)    Developing a site wide inspection register
  • b)    Assigning responsibility with regards to inspections and their implementation
  • c)    Take part in the planned inspection programme
  • d)    Continually improving inspections and management and monitoring of inspections and their efficiency
  • e)    Actively ensuring that corrective actions arising from inspections are entered on the databases and closed out
  • Assist in coordinating the identification and implementation of training opportunities for supervisor to junior staff
  • Assist in coordinating internship opportunities for graduates/tertiary students
  • Assist in driving site wide compliance to environmental licensing regulations and explore new areas of improving environmental compliance
  • Coordinate site inspections for environmental compliance.
  • Execute and improve the EMS
  • Assist with implementation and auditing of adopted standards
  • Assist the Superintendent with conducting internal EMS and legal compliance audits
  • Oversee and complete evaluation of emergency drills
  • Assist in coordinating the identification and implementation of training opportunities for supervisory  to junior staff
  • Assist in coordinating internship opportunities for graduates/tertiary students
  • Assist in driving site wide compliance to environmental licensing regulations and explore new areas of improving environmental compliance
  • Coordinate site inspections for environmental compliance.
  • Execute and improve the EMS
  • Assist with implementation and auditing of adopted standards
  • Assist the Superintendent with conducting internal EMS and legal compliance audits
  • Oversee and complete evaluation of emergency drills
  • Assist superintendent in reviewing aspect registers with the relevant teams on a minimum annual basis as well as drafting aspect registers for new activities, products and services
  • Develop measures to ensure environmental incidents are eliminated or kept to a minimum.
  • Develop and track action plans to close out audit findings and non-conformances listed from inspections, drills and incidents 
  • Carry out environmental and social impact assessments (ESIA)
  • Any other duties as directed by Superiors empowered to exercise authority over him/her.

QUALIFICATIONS


  •  Bachelor’s Degree in the following:
  • Environmental Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or any related field from a recognized university. ISO 14001:2015 EMS auditing  experience 
  • All academic qualifications and results must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA)

Experience


  • Minimum 5 years of work experience
  • Possession of a driver's license

BEHAVIOURAL TRAITS


  • Ability to properly manage own work with minimum supervision

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Minimal physical demands.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills essential.
  • Excellent written skills required for preparing reports.
